Michael co-founded FIRMA Foreign Exchange in 1998 and remained its Co-CEO until 2013. FIRMA was the largest non-bank, privately owned financial services company in Canada, transacting over $14B/yr, through locations in five countries.
In 2007, he was awarded the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award. FIRMA won recognition as one of Canada’s 50 Best Managed companies from Deloitte, Best Workplaces in Canada, and Best Medium Sized Employer in Canada, among other corporate awards.
From 2013 to 2022, Michael remained as a director of FIRMA. FIRMA was acquired by OFX, an Australian public company, in May 2022 for CAD$90M.
Michael was also elected to Edmonton City Council in October 2013 for a four year term.
He more recently founded Blue Pen Ventures, which finances and invests in a variety of businesses.
He is currently on the board of The Business Link and Startup TNT (Board Chair), and mentors small business owners via the University of Alberta’s Venture Mentoring Service and through other advisory positions.
Michael has an ICD.D designation.
Ross has been with Buffalo for almost 15 years, having been a Field Technician, Radiography Manager, Operations Manager and RSO, before becoming the President of the company in 2022. Ross’ extensive experience across all areas of the business and deep industry relationships help him to continue to lead Buffalo to success. Ross’ key responsibilities include setting the strategic direction of the business, maintaining important customer relationships, and maintaining accountability within the company.
Ross holds a BA degree from Grant MacEwan University and his technical qualifications include: CGSB: RT2, MT2, PT2, XRF & CSWIP Level II CR/DR Interpretation.
Chris Huebner is the President and CEO at Lloyd Sadd Insurance Brokers Ltd., one of the largest commercial insurance brokerages in Western Canada. Chris is responsible for developing strategic and corporate initiatives, managing client relationships, and assisting with innovative business opportunities. Beginning his career at Lloyd Sadd in 1995 as a recent graduate from the University of Alberta, Chris became the president in 2015 and then CEO in 2019.
He believes the success of every business is based on their efforts to continually enhance customer service at all levels, develop strong and lasting client relationships, and provide an exciting work environment for employees.
Chris thrives on knowledge and continuous improvement and has achieved his Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional and Canadian Risk Management designations.
Outside of work, he is very active with family, fitness, and volunteering for mental health and his kids’ sports. He is an active a member of TEC Canada and sits on the boards of CKUA Radio and Alberta Enterprise Group.
Brendan Hance is an entrepreneur, capital provider and fractional CFO based in Edmonton, Canada. In 2015, Brendan joined his family’s retail business managing 12 locations and 330+ employees across Canada and the U.S. After the successful sale of the family business in 2017, Brendan (alongside Tim Lynn) established 4th Street Capital, which looks to invest in owner managed businesses in the lower middle-market.
Tim Lynn is a private market investor and community builder. After university, he jumped into the startup world, living on air mattresses in the corner of nursing homes, and helped build and navigate it to a successful exit. He then returned to Edmonton to work at Deloitte, where he helped others sell their businesses, and where he earned his CPA, CFA, and CBV designations. Now he is the Co-Founder and General Partner at Startup TNT, where he has worked with hundreds of investors to invest over $15 million into more than 100 early-stage deals. Tim is also the Co-Founder of 4SC, both a fractional CFO firm and a private equity target fund that works to find and support strong and growing local owner-managed businesses. Buffalo is the first major investment of 4SC.
